Afghanistan - Is Democracy the Solution Or Part...
Having achieved the primary objective of the invasion, the elimination of Al-Qaeda, why is the conflict intensifying? The war against the resurgent Taliban - once supported by the US - is based on the assumption that if they are allowed to return to power Al-Qaeda will follow in their wake and the threat of international terrorism will escalate. In the current climate it is difficult to argue against this hypothesis but is the scenario inevitable? The Taliban were initially welcomed as rulers of Afghanistan following the Soviet withdrawal and years of civil war but their strict Islamist doctrine soon led to a backlash. Having experienced the ruthlessness of a Taliban government it is highly likely...
Politics - The Individual Or the State? God,...
To the credit of President Barak H. Obama, he was not kidding about his promise to fundamentally transform the United States of America and is working at lightening speed to achieve unprecedented changes as seen never before, to turn the USA into an unrecognizable Nation that the average American has never even fathomed before! The goal of eliminating all individual liberties is under way for the benefit of absolute power for the President, various Global elitists and select Progressive, Socialist and Marxist intellectuals with in a select crowd of perpetrators and the end result will be a conclusion of a Global Lords over surfs as a governmental equation by design, should the Constitutional...
Dawn of the Cosmopolitan - The Hope of a Global...
From the website post: The Great Transition Initiative is a collective endeavor by scholars and activists who share a broad commitment to addressing the major problems confronting humanity: poverty, security, and the environment. Its mission is to imagine, assess, and advance a great transition to a global future of enriched lives, equity, solidarity and a healthy planet. It takes seriously the slogan of progressives everywhere that another world is possible, but proposes that such a world must first be imagined creatively as a plausible human project. This report encompasses the great weight and gravity of the possibility of solving the sociological and political issues of our Global Society...
Learning Some Inspirational Tricks From...
After watching the 2008 Republican and Democratic Campaign Conventions on TV one could really get inspired. Senator Barrack Obama's campaign has indeed inspired so many new voters to get excited about politics. And whether you consider another new generation getting into politics as a good thing or bad thing, one cannot deny they inspirational value in enhancing the process. We also noted during the campaign speech by Senator John McCain at the Republican National Campaign Convention in Missouri that one of the themes was to give in and of yourself and join in a common cause that is bigger than self. That is an inspirational and noble calling. The Senator suggested joining the Peace Corp, or even...
Looking beyond the sound bites of what has become an increasingly sound-bite driven campaign, it is the candidates' true temperaments we need to consider. The next President will inherit many tough problems from George W. Bush. How he goes about addressing them may be just as important as the political ideology that influences his solutions. Historically speaking, it would probably be a good bet to take McCain in the Presidential race, as a major party Artisan candidate has never lost a November election. However, sure things never are. Only this past weekend, a 38-1 long shot defeated Big Brown's bid for the Triple Crown. Lorena Ochoa lost her bid for the LPGA Grand Slam. Even Tiger Woods has been...
At no time since the creation of our nation have we been further from the founding principles laid for this great nation. The concept of limited self government, separation of powers between the branches of government, and the supremacy of the state and the citizen over the federal government, seems to have been lost. The next president of the United States will determine whether we continue down the path to certain destruction of liberty and self determination, or a return toward smaller government and increased liberty -- we cannot have both. As government grows, liberty is diminished, because government rules by force; and the more power it takes, the more force is applied until only compliance...
Federick Chiluba - Corruption Personified
Frederick Chiluba was born on the 30th of April 1943 in Zambia and later rose to become the democratically elected president of the country in 1991 under the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, in a multiparty presidential election after being a trade union leader. He succeeded President Kenneth Kaunda and got re-elected in 1996 after a successful first tenure in office, but failed a third tenure bid in 2001. His party rather preferred Levy Mwanawasa who contested on their platform and won the election. The coming of Mwanawasa into power brought to fore the shoddy deals of President Frederick Chiluba while in office. He was investigated for corruption, arrested in 2003 and charged along with his...
A Summary of Turkey - EU Relations (2010)
David Cameron recently visited Turkey to express his support for Turkey to join the European Union as a member state - a view that is unpopular both with the French and German governments but also with many supporters of Mr Cameron's own Conservative party. Since the mid 1980s the Turkish government has made EU membership a long-standing aim of its platform to modernise both the economy and the political system of the Turkish state. However, in recent times, this aim has been frustrated by European leaders who are seemingly increasingly reluctant to grant Turkey full membership. Arguments for Turkey joining the EU. Turkey has a large and rapidly growing economy which is already closely integrated...
This article spotlights the "We the People Foundation" for their continued efforts to restore American rights and to hold the federal government accountable to the boundaries set by the Constitution. I would like to acknowledge their efforts with the Clean Elections Lawsuit, the People's Right to Petition Lawsuit, and for their tireless efforts on various tax issues. The foundation is a research and educational foundation focused on protecting and defending "individual Rights as guaranteed by the Constitutions of the United States and the fifty states of the Union." They also act as a watchdog/activist organization through its' sister organization the "We the People Congress." Arguably, one of the...
Ah, autumn; the season for brilliant colors, football games and political skulduggery. As Christians we should praise God for the beauty of his creation and the joy of athletic excellence but how should we deal with the realm of politics? To begin with it is important to accept the fact that there is no area of life that is exempt from the rule of God. Christians are called to engage every part of creation as they bring their sphere of influence under the authority of Jesus Christ. Believers must work to provide examples of how the kingdom of God is realized in every legitimate and moral pursuit. And yes, this includes the realm of politics with participation as candidates and voters alike. Yet, how...
Lessons From the Coup in Niger Republic
Niger republic is one of the landlocked countries in West Africa. It is located on the Northern border of Nigeria, and it's a member state of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Niger has enjoyed democracy for sometime now until the incumbent president Mamadou Tandja was forcefully removed from office through a military coup d'etat. Tandja has ruled the country for two consecutive tenures and instead of stepping down at the end of his second tenure he decided to alter the country's constitution to pave way for his third tenure bid. This drew condemnation from everyone, including the ECOWAS and the African Union, but typical of most African leaders Mamadou Tandja cared less about...
The points of discussion in this article are "role", "unorganized mass" and "democratic polity". Let's discuss each of the words and their meanings. "Role" here means function. But this is a very narrow definition. When we say function we should also involve the dysfunctional aspects also. The next key word is "Unorganized mass". What is the meaning of it? The simplest take would be those people who are not part of any organization. Here by organization we mean an association, which may be a political party, a pressure group, a non government organization, an interest group, a non-profit group or whatever it may be. So unorganized people are those who basically lead a voluntarism life, they may be...
Democratic Policing in Emerging Nations
The main feature of democratic policing is the understanding that police operate with the consent of the citizens. Police should strive to provide transparency in police operations and work at communicating with the public. In simplest terms in democratic policing the police strive to protect the citizens they serve. Whenever the police are working without the consent of the citizens we see things like what recently took place in Iran after the presidential elections. The police indiscriminately used force against the citizens - not to maintain peace, as the demonstrations began peaceful. They were a show of force to show who was in charge. The powers that were in place simply wanted the...
Musharraf Plans Return to Politics
Pakistan's ex-president, Pervez Musharraf, who remains in exile in London, has announced that he plans to return to politics in Pakistan. Opponents from Pakistan's major political parties have ridiculed the idea, though there does seem to be a small minority of those who would welcome his return. The military leader, who ousted former prime minister Nawaz in a coup in 1999 and resigned in 2008 and fled the country to avoid prosecution in Pakistan's courts announced that he feels he stands a good chance of winning the 2013 presidential elections in Pakistan. Spokesmen from various political parties in Pakistan have responded fiercely saying that Musharraf has no place in the future of Pakistan other...
Politics Is Wrong for Career Starter
Politics, theoretically and practically, is probably the word's most biased career. Politician, therefore, needs to not care about anything, but power and meticulously bias toward his/her political party. That's why I strongly suggest anyone not to enter politics as career start-up. As a career-starter, you need to be curious about everything; opening your eyes and ears to learn everything in a neutral way, allocating time to involve in any activity of your workplace and society as a whole, thinking and working as a researcher (neutrally learning everything, as well as analyzing), and finally you need more time to always sharpen your skill(s) by reading and other socializations. Politics is an...
Many times we see politicians on the job and wonder what it is like to be there to experience the moments. Recently I was invited to share in the festivities at our parliament in Jamaica. The experience was spectacular. As I entered the doors I was greeted to security systems beeping clearly signaling what kind of possessions I had on me. There was security all around clearly you could tell security is a major issue when so much power comes together. No alarms rang; I walked up to the gallery. In the gallery clearly there were sections outlined. One section had high profile persons; managers, CEOS, investors all ready to hear what the minister had to say. Dr Christopher Tufton would be presenting on...
A Moderate Political Viewpoint - The Need for a...
Right now in the United States, moderates feel squeezed out of the political process by both parties. The time has come for level-headed and centristic/moderates to make ourselves known. Neither conservatives, nor liberals truly speak for us, the often silent, but powerful majority. Polarized extremists on each end of the political spectrum state their views forcefully and loudly, however, the moderate majority has primarily gone without a voice - unified or not. Recent American politics have seen this polarization to both parties where few, if any, have had the strength to vote against the orthodox view of their party's extreme. One need only look at one party, which has become stigmatized as "The...
The States, the Stimulus, and Federalism's...
The stimulus is but the latest chapter in federalism's prisoners' dilemma. For those unfamiliar with the concept of the prisoner's dilemma, it is a logical tool of individual choice. There are two prisoners who are individually isolated and arrested for committing the same crime. There is no other solid evidence against either of them other than their own prospective individual and collective statements. If neither talks, both walk. If one talks, he walks, and the other prisoner suffers full punishment. If they both talk, they are both punished, but less than if they did not talk at all. So what is the rational position? Unless you have full and complete trust in your fellow prisoner (and who would...
The Myth That All Foreclosures By Power Of Sale...
The issue is one of First Impression because the Supreme Court of the United States has never decided whether a federally chartered bank corporation created under an act of Congress to provide an important public and national purpose could use a non- judicial procedure that allows the taking of a property interest without a hearing thus violating the 5th Amendment. The Court, however, has made numerous decisions which would have been relevant in determining whether non-judicial procedures were applicable given the nature of these corporations. Though several appellate courts have had occasion to determine the constitutionality of non-judicial procedures in the form of a trustee sale provision, none...
A government is an organization in a community or political entity that has the power to enact and enforce laws and maintain the peace and order. A government is necessary since is it considered the leadership of an organization, community or political entity. Laws are important since it defines the behavior of citizens. It defines which are legal or illegal. Without laws, an activity can not be known if it a crime or not. The law-making role of the government creates a code of conduct for individuals to follow. Another role of the government is the maintenance of peace and order. The police and fire department ensures that crimes like murder, theft, arson, etc. are prevented or minimized. If a...
Big Government is Not the Problem - Small...
So we have gone from "government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem", to "we have come to take back our government." By the way those who love to quote President Reagan on the former, please at least give the context. He clearly prefaced his comments by laying out the problems that the US faced at the time. That is why the words "in this present crisis" cannot be just ignored as those on the left and on the right have done over and over again in order to serve their particular political agenda. Taken in full context, President Reagan was right. In fact what he probably should have said was, "in this present crisis government was never meant to be the solution." That would...
Can America be Saved? Is Capitalism Finished?
merica be saved? Is Capitalism finished? The Commies will say ‘No’ and ‘Yes’ respectively, but they’re wrong! If the Elliot Wave theorists are to be believed then we have started wave four up of a five wave bear pattern going down i.e. Wave 1 down, Wave 2 up, Wave 3 down, Wave 4 up, then Wave 5 down. Certainly, as I write 16th March 2009, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) has rallied 11% and so it looks like wave 4 is underway and if it gets through 7240 on the Dow, it might make it to 8600 (and then start its wave 5 down from the 8600-8800 region). If this comes to pass the wave 5 down could be brutal and may go down for two years (that’s what happened when...
Local Government Apathy
I have been concerned about government/political apathy for some time. Especially, when it comes to local government. A unique idea has come out of Nevada. Daniel Rosen has announced his intent to run for U.S. Congress. If elected, he promises to vote as instructed by his constituents on his web site. He claims that "Registered voters in the 2nd District of Nevada will have total control over how I vote. I'm not running an opinion poll. It's a binding process." I see problems of only having "registered voters in the 2nd District of Nevada" vote on-line. 1) What kind of procedures will be needed to insure that only "registered voters in the 2nd District of Nevada" cast their votes on-line? 2) Will...
Getting Good Government
We are broken. The convergence of power politics and mega money has created a murky underground river that threatens the foundation of our public life. Locked in a death dance, politicians and their propertied patrons have waltzed us all to the brink of catastrophe as the interests of the few trumped those of the rest of us. This is the bottom line: The greatest impediment to effective, responsive-in other words, good-government today is the method by which political campaigns are financed. Having obtained office in a system which makes them dependent upon contributions of those at the top of the economic food chain, legislators and elected executives, ever aware of the inexorable march towards the...
"> Modern History Did you know- Present-day Botswana - former Bechuanaland-was a protectorate under the United Kingdom from 1886 to 1966, when it became an independent nation within the Commonwealth. In the subsequent decades, inspired by Great Britain and the United States of America, Botswana became a democratic society, making it Africa's best democracy. Since the 1970s, it is home to some of the world's most peaceful societies. No other place in the Third World has had a democratic system comparable to Botswana.Contrary to most nations in the world, the African nation has not had coups d' etat, guerrillas, warlords, military dictatorships, and Marxist revolutions. Until 1990, ironically, this...
Joseph Stalin came to power in 1928 when he became the de facto leader and the dictator of the Soviet Union until his death in 1953. He was the general secretary of the Bolshevik central committee of the communist party which influenced the Soviet Union profoundly until its decease in 1991. This essay is going to focus on the issues faced by Russia at the time of Stalin's rise to power, his rise to power and the consolidation of this throughout the making of the Soviet Union. Throughout the centuries Russia obtained a unique regime stemming from Ivan the Terrible (1533-84). Russia's mission was to create a 'third Rome' with Moscow after Constantinople had fallen and so the system became commonly...
The "Office of profit": A tool for Executive...
The “Office of profit”: A tool for Executive to control the Legislators By Dr. Madabhushi Sridhar, Professor, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. Jaya Bachchan’s disqualification, the Union Government’s proposed Ordinance to save some MPs, the opposition’s hue and cry that the ordinance was to save Mrs Sonia Gandhi, and strategic resignation of the later to disarm the opposition and remove the sting in their attack led to a very serious controversy over the offices, their profits, and the control of the government over them. As the dust of politics settled, it is time now to look at the concerted effort to amend the law to facilitate double offices of profit. There is a need to...
In a true democracy where the Parliament truly (that is, in a "statistically correct" manner) represents the people, shouldn't the elections be carried out by random lottery? Isn't that the way mathematicians draw a correct sample from any statistical "population"? Isn't that the way juries are selected in American courts (although I am aware of the mind-bending machinations that lurk below the orderly surface of the jury-selection process). As a matter of fact, once upon a time, about 2,500 years ago, that's how elections were carried out in ancient Greece. Everybody could not vote, that's one technical detail we have to disclose obviously. But those who were eligible to vote were represented...
Democratic Imperialism Debate
Many academic liberal professors have stated that you cannot force an Islamic country to become Democratic and that in trying you merely are practicing Democratic Imperialism and thus the debate. If we consider the Palestinian authority in the Democratic voting in of Hamas we can certainly see the problem with the democracy, which is run by the mob. A mob, which is indeed, controlled by radical fundamentalist clerics and along with their own form of mass media hysteria brainwashing. If we look at the new President of Iran and that radical, fundamentalist regime we can see the problems of democracy in backwards mindsets of the overall population are the fundamentalist population base, now their...
The Legacy of Operation Ajax
Iran has always played a pivotal role in world politics. It was once a world-class empire, it is strategically located at a crossroad between Europe, the Near East, and Asia, and it has the world's second largest petroleum reserves. In the 18th and 19th Century, it was the battleground between imperial rivals Russia and Britain in what came to be known as "The Great Game". In both World Wars, Iran held a strategic position and was pivotal to the Allies' victory. In 1951, the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC) controlled Iranian petroleum production. Little of the company's profits went to Iran and the AIOC's Iranian workers were severely mistreated and underpaid. On April 30, 1951, everything...
Tiers in Government - No Need to Cry About It!
p>A recent forum conversation planted a seed and sparked an Internal debate within me about Governments, Change and Politics. Governments in most parts of the world follow a 3 Tier system. Federal, State and Local Government divisions are generally found around the world. In Australia, as in other parts of the world many have highlighted the need for less governance and a more streamlined approach to deliverance of services. I am all for the reduction in the size of Government but I can't help but feel the implementation factor is the biggest problem in reducing the size of Government at ANY level. To highlight the services offered at the 3 tiers of government in Australia: At a Federal...
Part of democracy is to have equality in freedom, rights to anything we can gain from the work done by our own hands. People who work harder will gain more reward, people who slack off will gain less. That is the fundamental of equality, and this is what keeps democracy alive. The strong and hardworking one will continue to advance and the weak will be filtered off. But the weak ones are not being denied their chance of getting strong and they can progress at their own pace, eventually being one of the strong ones in the ecosystem. That is how it should work by right. But when you take the equality out of the equation and impose a cap on certain variables of it, it will have collateral damage on the...
Eisenhower warned against the United States becoming predominately dependent on military power as a means for its security. The biggest change in American democratic history came about as a result of World War II and the introduction of the nuclear bomb. From the mid 40's to the early 50's two different directions became available for our government to choose from. One direction was for our government to embrace the principles of the newly formed United Nations, which was originally handed all the tools necessary to civilize this world through a system of International Law and Order based on the establishment of an International Bill of Human Rights. After the devastation of World War II the world...
How to Choose Which Political Party to Vote For
This article will not make a pitch to earn your vote. My own voting preference is for the Labour party. The decision to do so came from lots of research including discussions with friends, family and reading of websites and reference books. I even had a meeting with someone from another party and nearly joined it before deciding my overall values and concerns were best met by the Labour party. For you it may be different and of course it is your own decision, you just need to do similar work to find out which party is right for you. Because all of the main parties are towards the centre of the political spectrum there is not much to choose between them. There are some fundamental differences between...
Breaking the Political Dynasty Pattern in the...
A law that would prohibit the build-up of political dynasty anywhere in the Philippines is about to change the political future of the country once it is enacted into law. Sen. Panfilo Lacson, author of the Anti-Political Dynasty Act, according to a report, succeeded in refilling the bill before Congress went into recess on October 14. Sen. Lacson, who is not known to have fielded any members of his family onto the political arena in the country, deserved to be commended for this landmark bill. Once signed into law by Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the anti-political dynasty bill will cover the elections in 2010. As a consequence we will be seeing political ambitions of many local politicians...
Whether you are interested in politics, you will find that, at some point in your life, you will be influenced by politics, be it at your workplace, home, or school. However, when we talk about politics, we generally refer to the political situation of the country, state, region or city we live in. Consequently, almost all political science books are written keeping these factors in mind. In fact, most courses in colleges and universities around the world also prescribe books that teach students the political situation in their country or that of the rest of the world. There is a school of thought that says that political science can help you prepare for studying law. This is due to the fact that...
Protecting Our Rights - Parliamentary Procedure...
Active people attend meetings. At meetings of youth groups like the Scouts and Future Farmers of America, service clubs like Kiwanis and Rotary, school boards and parent-teacher associations, even state and national legislative bodies, people more or less follow parliamentary rules. Why? Parliamentary procedure balances the rights of the majority, the minority, and individual members, as well as enables an organization to do its business. When an assembly ignores the rules, the rights of the members of the body - and of the people they represent - are trampled. An assembled body may be a civic, recreational, professional, or legislative group. "The great lesson for democracies to learn is for the...
Health Care Reform Vs Health Insurance Reform
Health Care reform has been a hot item starting prior to the most recent Presidential Election. The Obama Administration, has now moved Health Care Reform to the forefront of their agenda. Regardless of your political affiliation, the obvious facts are that costs have continually increased over the last decade. How should the problem(s) be resolved? The average person who favors government intervention believes that the reform needed is with Health Insurance. Be careful not to confuse Health Care Reform with Health Insurance Reform. The two issues should be completely different, but it seems the Obama Administration has focused their energies in solving the Health Care Issue by focusing on...
Voting And Non-Voting Behaviors In 2004 US...
The USA presidential election is conducted every 4 years in November. It uses a system of "first-past-the-post" or "winner-takes-all" which means the candidate who gets the majority of popular votes does not necessarily win; what is more important is getting the majority of electoral votes. In such a system an individual might feel that his vote can not make a difference in the outcome of the election and therefore may choose not to vote at all. That is why some scholars believe about 50 per cent of people who are eligible to vote prefer to stay at home and not to show up in the Election Day. In this paper, the theories of voting and non-voting behavior in 2004 presidential election are discussed...
On 15th August 2006, when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address the nation from Rampant of Lal Quila, India will be completing its 59 years of Independence and will be entering into "Diamond Jubilee" year of its existence. Let the celebrations continue for centuries and keep the tri-color high. Before I proceed further I like to share with you the Speech of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru delivered on 15th August 1947...Tryst with Destiny... "Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes...
Parmalat, BCCI and Maxwell are examples of major corporate failures that shocked the world prior to the inception of corporate governance in the 1980s. However, since the corporate scandal of Enron, corporate governance has brought about increased attention amongst regulators and all stakeholders world over particularly shareholders, banks and governments. This concern has resulted in a focus on the relationship between a company's shareholders and its Board of directors, as well as the executive and non-executive directors. Regarded as leadership in the corporate sense, corporate governance is meant to assist companies to manage and control risk processes within an organisation. Inferred from its...
Corruption - Don't Say You Don't Have it in You
"Hah!" blurted the young police officer, "No one is honest!" This was the automatic and Freudian slippish reply to a question I had just posed to a Brandon City Police officer regarding his perception of the average person's level of integrity. And while I found his audacious and unabashedly negative world view a little disconcerting, I initially chalked it up to the opinion of a cynical lawman who had wrestled reality out of one too many bandits. However, after a bit of thinking on the matter, it struck me that Sheriff Six Shooter would be rubbing shoulders not only with representatives from The Underworld but also with professionals in the legal system, prison system, health care system and our...
Brazil's Economic Growth - Reducing Corruption
The issue of corruption has, for a long time, been an unfortunate characteristic of Brazil and a concern of international investors and business people. With the most prominent forms appearing in the country's political system, below are some short descriptions of the most well known cases: - Fernando Collor (president from 1990 to 1992) was exposed as having undertaken a number of corrupt extortions in a fairly unsubtle manner and subsequently resigned to avoid impeachment. In 1994, he was acquitted of corruption on the grounds of inadequate evidence and is now back in the Brazilian Senate. - In 2002, $BRL 1.3 million was uncovered in a police raid at presidential hopeful Roseana Sarney's husbands...
The Politics of Bandhs
On 05 July 2010 the opposition parties in India called for a bandh to protest against price rise and cost of living due to the policies of the Congress led United Front Government. A bandh ( closure) is a legitimate form of protest against any policy and is frequently resorted to by the political parties. It is form of protest where in a complete shut down is effected of all services and markets as a mark of protest. Bandh's in India can trace their origin to the days of the British Raj.Theoretically they are supposed to be peaceful and voluntary, but in most cases the bandhs are enforced not with a little coercion and force. Bandhs can also turn violent, resulting in damage to property both private...
Student Participation in Politics
Nowadays it is very common to find students actively involving themselves in politics. Many students have even pledged allegiance to different political parties. What are the short-term implications and long-term effects of this participation in politics by students? A primary distinction must be made here between politics as active participation in political movements and the study of political science. The latter is an academic subject and involves the study of the administrative systems of different countries, the formation of political parties, different judiciary systems, etc. Political science, therefore, is a theoretical study of political systems. Politics means the formation of political...
As a matter of principle and practice, I believe in Win-Win solutions whenever possible, and that life presents us with a virtually unlimited number of opportunities to break out of "zero-sum" assumptions to create abundance. In fact, this is the magic of American-style capitalism. The economic decisions of millions of individuals throughout our society have for generations created sufficient wealth to ensure an American standard of living that has been the envy of the world. To be sure, oil is not yet a scarce resource, but is becoming more costly to produce, and the politics of petroleum in the world today threatens the very foundation of our national wealth. Petroleum is a commodity, in fact, a...
During the health care summit the Administration put on as a dog and pony show, one participant compared the Democrats and Republicans to Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." This is an insult to warring families everywhere. If we're going to invoke movie trivia let's get it straight. Our political parties are not "Romeo and Juliet;" They at best Groundhog's Day and at worst The Godfather. In the Bill Murray flick Groundhog's Day the same thing keeps happening day after day after day. It is maddening to the protagonist but every time the alarm rings in the morning, it's the same ole same ole. Sound familiar? Sound like your local politician giving you the same ole blah blah? This is politics and now...
Will the Women Reservation Bill Bring Good...
A much has been said about the current Women Reservation Bill that was passed by the Rajya Sabha in New Delhi on March 9, 2010. This bill passed with much more interference between different political parties. But finally it was passed with 30% reservation facilities for the women. In a giant leap for women kind, the Rajya Sabha votes to amend the constitution to reserve one-third of the seats in Parliament and the state assemblies for women. The Parliament records its vote of 191 for and 1 against the motion. The 108th Constitutional amendment must now be passed by the Lok Sabha and notified by at least half the states for becoming effective. Women Reservation Bill will not be able to bring any...
Electoral College Constitutional Abuses
Please put aside all bias in order to appreciate these findings as research potentially valuable to any political agenda. The only "absolute" required is to understand and believe the founding fathers intended the Constitution of the United States of America to be the "supreme law of the land." - The Electors Immediately there is a major contradiction between the Constitutional directives as to how Electors are chosen, but more importantly the function each performs. Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 2 "Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in...
US Immigration Reform 2010 - Predictions and...
This is supposedly going to be a big year for US Immigration Reform with the Healthcare Reform debate almost at a conclusion.Legislation like the Dream Act and Senators Grassley and Durbin's H1B Visa and L1 Visa Reform bills are already being debated a little and in the case of the latter bill already introduced into Congress. Suffice it to say this is going to be one crazy year for US Immigration. Now in terms of specifics now that January has progressed a little things are looking less hopeful in some ways than they did on January 1, 2010. At that point there was a general expectation that the Healthcare reform bill which in 2 different forms had passed the House and Senate in Congress was going...
Renewed Questions About Capitalism and the...
The US mortgage crisis has seriously challenged the idea of laissez faire (free market) economies. What was once regarded as the soundest and progressive economic model is now suffering a crisis of confidence. No one seems to have the answers. The free market economic model in a nutshell dictates that a government must not interfere or be involved in any economic activity. On the other extreme end you have communist economies where government owns, controls and directs all economic activity. What is important to note is that no country is fully capitalist or communist. Most countries are mixed economies defined as capitalist or communist depending on how far they lean either way. In the early 1990's...
